Compassion is the absolute flowering consciousness. Passion is stripped of all the darkness, freed from all fetters, purified of all the poison. The passion becomes compassion. Passion is the seed of compassion is to flourish. But compassion is not goodness and kindness is not compassion. Kindness is an attitude that, guided by the ego, strengthens your ego. When you are kind to someone you feel you have advantage. When you are kind to someone is hiding a deep insult, you are humiliating the other and feel happy with his humiliation. Somehow and somewhere, the person you've been kind will be angry with you and would inevitably take revenge. This happens because on the surface, goodness arises as if compassion, but deep down has nothing to do with compassion. Have other ulterior motives.
Compassion is unmotivated, has no reason at all. Is simply because you, because you give, not because the other needs nothing. In compassion there is no consideration to the other. I have so much overflow. Compassion is like breathing, spontaneous and natural. Kindness is an attitude to be cultivated. Kindness is a kind of ruse, calculated and math.
You heard one of the most important these are, in almost all scriptures of the world:
"Do unto others as you would like to behave with you." This is an attitude calculated, but not compassion. It has nothing to do with religiosity, and is a type very low morality, a morality very worldly. It's kind of transaction, but there is nothing religious. You're doing just because you like to receive the same in return. It is selfish, egocentric and interested. Not the service of others, you are not loving the other, but, in a roundabout way you're doing you a favor to yourself. You are using the other. It is an enlightened self-interest, but selfishness is a very intelligent selfishness, but selfishness. Compassion is a flowering not calculated, is something that emanates. Das why you can not do otherwise. Osho
